elan magazine

Digital product development and UI/UX Design

Project overview

Medihelp Medical Scheme made the transition of their traditional print magazine over to a digital platform. I was part of the team conceptualising a brand new digital product enabling all readers (including blind) to access the health magazine online. This was built as a CMS system, allowing each new issue to carry the brand in a unique reader friendly format, also allowing access to the archive of back issues.

My role

My responsibilities included conceptualising, designing and developing a digital magazine for readers.

Design process

We followed a design process with the following steps:
1. Understand
2. Competitor analysis
3. Design
4. Implementation & evaluation

Design & development toolkit

Medihelp is moving toward a paperless environment, and their first cost-cutting measure was developing the elan into a digital product, no longer a printed magazine that is mailed to members.

The elan used to be an A5 printed magazine.

The elan is now a fully digital product, with articles and podcasts.

User research and competitor analysis

We mainly did a competitor analysis of different digital magazine/news platforms, and tried to focus on the age of our readers. We developed a magazine that is printable for those who prefer, that is readable for visually impaired persons, and a digital product that is available accross 3 platforms for digital readers.

I created the full set of high-fidelity ideations to be discussed with stakeholders before we started development.
